How My Licensing
Works
I provide rights-managed licensing. Usually
this means one-time,
non-exclusive rights to publish.
"One time
rights"
means you would be licensed to publish a photograph once.
For example, you might purchase the right
to publish one photo, at 6x9 inches, on an inside page, of one issue, of one
particular magazine, to accompany an article. After that, the image may no longer be used unless a
new license is granted.
"Non-exclusive" means you would not be the only person allowed to
use a particular photograph. Others may also purchase a license for the same image.
However, depending on the photograph, I may be able to guarantee that you
have first-time publishing rights, or at the very least I can tell you who
else has used, or plans to use, a particular image and when.
Whatever our agreement, I retain ownership
and Copyright of the photo.
The
Buying Process
Contact me and tell me which photograph you
like and how you plan to use it. I will write up a Stock Photography
Invoice/License -- in plain English -- and send it to you (email, snail
mail, or fax). You review the license, sign it, and send it back.
Then you
can pay me, either online through PayPal (I will create a credit card
payment button for you) or by mailing
me cash or a check. I will then mail you a disk containing the digital
image, or simply email it to you (if necessary, I can use an email service
that allows online transfer of very large files).
Note that
this whole process can be done online if necessary, making it easier to meet
deadlines.
Photo File Technical
Information
For print
publications, the photograph will be 300 dpi at the size you need it. I will
provide the image in JPEG format (quality level 12) unless you request
another format such as TIFF or EPS.
For web
use, the photograph will be 72dpi at the size you need it, in JPEG format.
I look
forward to hearing from you!
