This is the San Francisco Peaks
near Flagstaff,
Arizona in June. The tallest point is Humphrey's Peak.
The yellowish grass in the foreground is the rim of a
dormant volcano
about 20 miles north of the peaks
(a wonderfully obscure place with no
trails and no name
on USGS topo maps). The tree in the foreground
was killed
by fire about 10 years ago.
It's a peaceful
scene with a violent past.
